Dear Editor:
Responding to ID's recent comment (09/11/09 ID) which stated, "as another 9/11 anniversary approaches, most Americans are thankful that Al Qaeda has not struck again." Most Americans are thankful?? Do you know some that aren't?

Janis Peterson-Lord, Esq.
Long Beach, CA

Dear Editor:
In ID 9/28/2009, Mr. Jim Roberts's letter states, "The basic, immutable problem is that there is no actual way to make that which is illegal, legal, as even Humpty Dumpty understood, but shamnesty advocates don't." I and tens of thousands of immigration lawyers and Members of Congress respectfully disagree. True, there are some instances in which no legal relief is available, and there are some cases in which, while relief may be available, relief is denied on the basis of an administrative exercise of discretion, but in many cases, "illegal" can and is transformed into "legal", and that is done entirely within the purview of existing laws and regulations.
