Dear Editor:
ID's unsigned (08/31/09) editorial,"The Antis," condemns NumbersUSA for racism. "The unifying theme behind the anti-immigrationists and the anti-Obamites is the same racism." And yet, the editorial itself is an example of prejudice. NumbersUSA invites ID readers to visit One will find rational policy arguments attempting to demonstrate that continued large scale immigration into the US is not in the best interests of our nation or of the world. One will find videos in which people of diverse ethnic backgrounds discuss why they believe immigration reduction is a good idea. We have a recent blog showing that the population of the US is perfectly on track to reach 1.182 billion in the year 2100, according to U.S. census bureau data. No statement ever made by NumbersUSA is remotely similar to the sentiments expressed by an unnamed New Hampshire protester. NumbersUSA specifically says in the upper right corner of its website, "Say No to Immigrant Bashing." ID has prejudged NumbersUSA. If a member of Congress has a hard time believing that President Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States, then thats his or her business. NumbersUSA has no association with the Representative; all we did was assign him an immigration grade of B+. ID has found us guilty by non-association. NumbersUSA is not "anti-immigration." We are pro-immigration in the national interest, pro-jobs for American workers, and pro-environment. NumbersUSA is not "at the cutting edge of those opposing the current administration." NumbersUSA congratulated President Obama on his election, and we commented favorably upon his inaugural address. President Obama has stated that his will be a transparent and participatory administration. The Obama administration should meet with us.
