Editor's Comments

We once again remind new readers who have just joined the Immigration Daily reader community that this issue and the ones to come over the next couple of days will be considerably lighter in immigration law news than our usual issues. We will have much more in-depth issues upon our return to New York and will catch up on news from DOS, DOJ, DOL, the federal courts, the Federal Register and the Congressional Record. We will soon be announcing a new seminar on the process of immigration by Robert Divine. Upcoming issues of the Daily will carry further details on this exciting new seminar series.

Immigrants Are Not Drain On Economy
An opinion column in the Tuscon Citizen quotes Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan in congressional testimony last year saying "there are great misperceptions that immigrants are a drain on our economy, but many studies have confirmed that the opposite is true. Even undocumented workers - commonly referred to as 'illegal' - contribute more than their fair share to our great country."

State Department Tightens Scrutiny Of Visa Applicants
MSNBC reports on the Department of State's tougher scrutiny of visa applicants "those who meet with success are a fairly select group: well-established with good careers or impressive backgrounds, who have already traveled to Europe or the United States, have a convincing reason to travel to the United States and an even better reason to return to [the country where the visa is issued].
