Military Naturalization

A military service member must meet certain requirements and qualifications to become a U.S. citizen. These include:

  • Demonstrating good moral character;
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the English language;
  • Demonstrating knowledge of U.S. government and history (civics); and
  • Demonstrating attachment to the U.S. by taking an oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.
To date, more than 18,000 service members have applied for expedited naturalization. For the entire USCIS fact sheet on military naturalization, see here.

Dear Editor:
This letter is in response to Mr. Frecker (1/31/05 IW). I disagree with his opinion regarding foreign labor. His opinion reflects on millions of people whom he does not know.
