This Communication Center is managed not
by lawyers or law makers or political organizations but by
ordinary, concerned citizens who are simply and honestly
concerned for the devastating effect that this law is starting to
have on thousands, town to town, all over the country...
The need for help is urgent. Denyse
Sabagh, President of the American Immigration Lawyers
Association, tells us that the IIRAIRA is an unjustified weapon
aimed at a wrong target, and that it carries within itself the
possibility of decimating American families, especially the
children of such families. "Instead of focusing energy and
attention on more effective enforcement of our nation's
immigration laws," Sabagh noted, "the bill misfires a
salvo into the heart of American families and communities."
(Quoted in an online update about the new law published by the Law
Offices of Cyrus Mehta .) Thus
to address such an immediate, growing need for advocacy and for
compassionate understanding and help, we have set up these web
pages as a place for open forums of discussion, human interest
profiles of those being hurt, recent research on possible
favorable interpretations of the new law, attempts to put waivers
on those parts of the law that seem the most restrictive, news
about groups of reform efforts that are underway, and frequent
petitions to sign for emailing to all members of Congress and to
the President's Office...
The most important part of this site is
our Townhall, where all those concerned may write in and tell
how this new law has adversely affected, or will affect, their
life. More and more it seems that sharply-profiled, moving human
interest stories are being listened to by the new Congress. If
action toward reform is to take place, these stories will be what
most helps. You can read these stories online by clicking here...
We also have forum where people can
give voice to ideas for reform of the new immigration law, by
joining in an online task force called the Roundtable... You can read what has already been said by clicking here...
Also, if you, having become familiar
with the harshness of this law. wish to do something about
changing the law, we have provided a special service on site
called the Lawmakers
Page. Here, in a few seconds,
you can copy letters into your browser, and send them immediately
to Washington, both to the Senator of your state, and to the Representative of your district. There is also a link to the the House
Locator, where you can find out
who your Representative is, simply by entering your zipcode.
Finally, for those intersted in
starting their own grassroots groups, we have provided reference sources and helpful links to
other related websites...
ILW.COM hosted the Micasa Sucasa website for many years. This file is a part of the archives of the site during that time.
