The new immigration law, called the Illegal
Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRAIRA), signed by President Clinton
on the last day of September, 1996, is the most inhumane, restrictive and
anti-immigrant-biased law passed in the United States in this century. Accordingly, we,
not as lawyers or law makers but as concerned citizens, have set up this website as a new
Communication Center and Advocacy Forum for the reform, correction and modification of
this new law...

Update 2/10/02
What everyone knows, and what no one is talking about, is that the war on terrorism is
being used by some as a pretext to return to an anti-immigrant abuse of human rights even
more unjust than the virulence of the 1996 law itself. The way to fight terrorism is not
to invade the space of ordinary hard-working people as if they are America's enemies, but
to enlist their aid, and the aid of the countries from which they have come.
Americans who have a love of justice and truth know that UNITED
WE STAND refers to a family of all people of America. And this single,
national family of love (constituted by both citizens and non-citizens) stands together
against terrorism everywhere.
