Immigration And Social Security

Immigration Daily's longstanding position that increased levels of immigration is economically good for America was reaffirmed with the release of the first study linking immigration to the Social Security deficit. According to the National Foundation for American Policy report, an additional 264,000 immigrants a year (33% increase) of legal immigration over the next 75 years would reduce the Social Security deficit by 10%. According to the study, immigrants typically arrive near the start of their working years and may contribute to the system for up to four decades before receiving any benefits. As this study concludes, legalization would expand our tax base in a significant and meaningful way. Millions of undocumented currently live and work in the US who would gladly contribute to Uncle Sam's coffers. We have but to welcome these hardworking immigrants into our polity and tax base just as their American friends and employers have already made them part of our society.

We welcome readers to share their opinion and ideas with us by writing to editor@ilw.com.
