". . . they have no proposals short of turning America into a Gestapo state where the undocumented would be shot on sight." You don't think that's a little over the top? The debate about immigration is a serious debate, and one in which reasonable people can and should be able to have differing opinions without being personally attacked, and characterized as Nazis shooting whomever they like. The reason statements like that above are so harmful is that 1) they do not address the issue, but assault the person who disagrees with you; 2) they show disrespect to the reader by implying that the reader is not smart enough to know the difference between a valid argument an invalid argument 3) they show distain for the very issue that is being argued about in that you care so little for the topic that you can't even be bothered to make a legitimate argument supporting your position. We are attorneys working in an historic and important field of law, one that has a noble legacy in the United States, it is important that we live up to the high standards that we ourselves have set.
