The asylees Mr. Baldwin mentions in his letter will never find the Utopia they're seeking, in the US or anywhere else. There are Americans, just as there are people everywhere, who torture, murder, rape, batter, and do all the ugly things these asylees are trying to escape. However, Mr. Baldwin should point out to them that the true difference between America and the countries they're fleeing is that these acts are NOT socially acceptable, or government-supported. These acts do become public, and that when they do, they are punished. This is in stark contrast to countries where a free press is unknown, and where atrocities are standard operating procedure, and the basis for reward rather than punishment.
