I am attaching a copy of the letter which was sent on State Bar of Texas letterhead to the Texas Housing Association. We are objecting to their new supplemental rental application which asks questions about U.S.
immigration status on applications to rent an apartment in Texas and
requires prospective applicants to show documentation of immigration
status. This form is being distributed to TAA's members who own
and manage apartments. Their rationale is that it might help protect
our country from terrorists. Of course this form will not detect terrorists
but will only serve to discriminate against foreign nationals who reside
in our communities and who are often the parents of U.S. citizens.
