Dear Editor:

Rep. George Gekas has just introduced a new immigration reform bill (SAFER Act) which will make extensive and necessary changes to the current immigration laws and policies of this country. Some of the key points of interest are as follows: --Will require tracking of foreign students and visitors; --Will make it a federal crime to overstay a visa for more than 6 months; --Will require employers to check the validity of new employees' social security numbers thus preventing illegal aliens to obtain employment so easily. There are many more important points that have been long overdue to overhaul an antiquated and porous immigration system (Can you say 245(i) abuse?) and now that we are in a new era of terrorism all of these measures, if taken, will be a step to securing the borders and provide the safety all Americans deserve. Thank you Rep. Gekas!!

J. Seyes
