Dear Editor:
This is a notice of my brother's passing. He was an ILW.COM member until he passed away last month.

Obituary: Adam G. S. Chanak
Adam G. S. Chanak, 48, of Bainbridge Island, WA died May 8, 2002 in Seattle. He was born in Duluth, MN and lived in northern Minnesota until 1973. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George (Donna) Chanak of Minnesota; sister, Helen Chanak of Eden Prairie, MN; uncle, aunts, and cousins in Minnesota; and many special friends in Washington and Oregon. Private Eastern Orthodox services and burial were held in Minnesota on May 14.

Adam was a practicing attorney in Washington state for the past nineteen years. He graduated magna cum laude from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington in 1978 and from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington in 1983. He was a member of many professional associations and served as Chair of the Section on International Practice of the Washington State Bar Association from 2000-2001.

He fluently spoke five languages, enjoyed sailing, playing the viola and piano, was an avid writer, and held a lifelong interest in theology. He was an active member of Saint Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral in Seattle.

An Orthodox memorial service or Panikhida will be held for Adam on Sunday, June 16, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral. Father Vadim Pogrebniak will officiate.

Memorials, if desired, may be given to Saint Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral, 400 Yale Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109 to the attention of Father Vadim Pogrebniak, or to the Humane Society/SPCA in memory of Adam and his beloved dog, Konan. To make a donation to the Humane Society/SPCA, please call 425.373.5382 or mail your donation with any special instructions to 13212 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue, WA 98005-4408. Messages for the family may be sent to Helen Chanak, 6530 Kingfisher Lane, Eden Prairie, MN 55346.

Helen Chanak
