Dear Editor:

I read the "Editor's Comments" in the Feb. 5th edition of Immigration Daily. The comment was made that... "Congress is back in session, but so far has been turning its attention to national security, the economy and Enron instead of considering immigration issues." To me, it seems that national security and the economy are "bound up" with the immigration issue. As the letters to this website indicate, people who have a position on the immigration issue - whether in favor of the present levels or in favor of reducing immigration - believe it has an impact on the economy, whether positive or negative.

Also, contrary to some pronouncements, our borders are not much more secure than they were on 9/11/01. I recently saw a discussion on a news station in which a Mexican official said that an average of about 1,000 illegal aliens cross the border every day. If that many illegal aliens can make it through, so can terrorists. Until our borders are under control, no one can honestly say that we have achieved "national security."
