Connecticut Passport Agency Dedicates New Passport Facility and Processing System

The U.S. Department of State's Connecticut Passport Agency celebrated its Grand Opening and dedicated its new passport issuance system on Friday, October 19, 2001, at 10:00 am in the SoNo Corporate Center, 50 Washington Street, Norwalk, Connecticut. The Agency recently moved to this newly renovated building in South Norwalk, approximately 8 miles from its former location in Stamford. The new issuance system, called "TDIS-Photodigitization," produces a technologically advanced passport, which has many features that make it one of the most secure travel documents in the world. The most notable feature is that the passport holder's photograph, or portrait, is printed as a digital image directly into the passport. The digitized portrait, together with other security features, serve as fraud deterrents, enhancing the security of the documents as proof of U.S. citizenship around the world.

The dedication of the new facility and the updated passport issuance system included a ceremonial Ribbon-Cutting event with remarks by Ambassador Mary A. Ryan, the U.S. Department of State's Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Frank Esposito, Mayor of Norwalk, Georgia Rogers, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services, and Jamiss E. Sebert, Regional Director of the Connecticut Passport Agency.

The Connecticut Passport Agency provides service to residents of Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. Last year, the Agency issued over 116,000 passports for U. S. citizen travelers.

Customers traveling within 14 days, who have not been able to apply for a passport earlier, may visit the Passport Agency for expedited service by calling the Automated Appointment System at (203) 299-5443. The Automated Appointment System is available 24 hours. Public appointment hours are 9:00 to 1:00 Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays. Customers traveling in more than 14 days must apply at one of nearly 200 designated passport application acceptance facilities in the Agency's region. Locations of all these facilities and additional information on applying for passports, including requirements, application forms, and other travel-related information may be accessed through the Department of State's website at travel.state.gov.
