Dear Editor:

It takes guts to say this as a foreigner myself, but not a Mexican. I am from the West Indies and have been here for 21 years. Lived here 11 years illegally until the first amnesty was passed in which I was included (thank God). My husband and myself worked hard and paid our taxes. We stayed out of trouble and never at one time broke the law. Why does not Bush just go ahead and give amnesty to everyone here also. Why only the Mexicans? Is it because his wife's ancestry is from there he is looking out for her people? I say give the privilege to whomever is here. I have filed for my two brothers and sister seven years ago and things are as bad in the islands as it is in Mexico. It is going to take them at least 15 to 20 years before getting through. I love my family and as a citizen filing for them I think there should be a higher priority in the filing and processing their paperwork here. Now they are here illegally but working odd jobs just to make ends meet. Think about the others not just the Mexicans, that would not be fair. There are thousands of others who have run away from their own country to come to this country. Your anthem says, for the land of the FREE and the home of the brave.
