Real IRA Designation

QUESTION: Will leaders of the named aliases of the Real IRA now be ineligible for U.S. visas?

ANSWER: Yes. Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, the Visa ineligibility applies to "Representatives" of designated groups.

QUESTION: On what basis did the Secretary of State determine that the 32 County Sovereignty Movement and the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association are aliases of the Real IRA?

ANSWER: evidence provided by both the British and Irish governments and open source materials demonstrate clearly that the individuals who created the real IRA also established these two entities to serve as the public face of the real IRA. These alias organizations engage in propaganda and fundraising on behalf of and in collaboration with the real IRA.

QUESTION: Are there now 29 or 30 Foreign Terrorist Organizations?

ANSWER: With today's designation of the real IRA, there are now 30 foreign terrorist organizations designated under U.S. law.
