This is a
copy of letter originally sent to the editor of the
Anchorage Daily News, Anchorage, Alaska, in the wake of a
radio broadcast about the plight of undocumented Hispanic
victims of rape:
Dealing with the humiliation, the agony and obscenity of rape must be an excruciating experience. Imagine encountering rape and you canít go to the authorities. The sadness when you know there is help and comfort available to other victims, but not to you because you do not speak the same language or share the same culture.
Adding insult to injury, you and I, the tax payers, are also being raped when Federal Tax moneys are spent on grants to agencies which are supposed to provide assistance to victims of crimes, regardless of their immigration status; Title VI mandates that any agency which receives Federal Grants is required to provide equal assistance to all persons, even providing an interpreter if necessary.
Folks! There is no excuse! Where is the moral and ethical fiber of our community?
