Comment: Rubio Dream Legislation - President Obama's brilliant political move of announcing administrative relief for DREAMers has caught the Republican party flat-footed. The Miami Herald reports that Senator Rubio has been working on his version of DREAM Act for the past few months and reacted to the Presidential announcement as follows: " 'Today's announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem,' Rubio said shortly after Obama's announcement. Rubio also criticized Obama for 'ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress" because the executive order essentially amounts to lawmaking by the executive branch of government.' " We urge Senator Rubio to follow through with his words and actually introduce his own version of DREAM Act in the Senate providing a long term legislative solution to the problem President's executive action is addressing. Having both parties vying with each other to provide solutions for DREAMers will produce the best solution for these Americans, and will enable both parties to compete for the Latino vote.
