Comment: Women Power - In honor of International Women's Day, we celebrate the immigrant women in our nation. Who are they? What is their role in US economy and everyday life? Immigrant women are a fundamental part of our economy's backbone. From farm immigrant workers to domestic workers who raise American children to business owners to pro-immigrant community leaders, women contribute to the greatness of our country with their hard work, intelligence and perseverance. The Center for American Progress published a list of 10 Facts You Need to Know About Immigrant Women that show why "we as a nation need to understand what immigrant women in our nation face every day." The stereotype that an immigrant is a single Latino male is no longer valid. The vast majority of the immigrant community is comprised by women, who many times leave everything behind, including their professional careers, parents, and even children, in search for a better future for their families. We thank all immigrant women for their sacrifices and efforts. Share your thoughts and experiences regarding the role of immigrant women in America by writing to us at editor@ilw.com.
