Comment: House Democrats Are Santa - From the ever-insightful Micheal Hill:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) pledged on Wednesday that the House of Representatives will take up the DREAM Act during the Lame Duck Session ... and that it would do so regardless of whether the Senate first takes up the measure ... Hoyer's comments were made late on Wednesday, December [1], in a brief session with reporters ... the pledge was significant ... in that it was made as efforts in the Senate to bring up the DREAM Act were sustaining one procedural and political setback after another ... When asked on Wednesday whether Democrats had the requisite 218 votes that would be needed to pass the DREAM Act, Hoyer replied, "I think we would have the votes when we bring it to the floor."
We commend the House Democratic leadership for finally pledging to bring immigration benefits to the floor of the 111th House where the Democratic Party still has a historic majority, and where there is still hope for the Democrats to live up to their promise to immigrants. House passage of DREAM would build momentum for action in the Senate, where legislative business has ground to a halt over the impasse on budget/taxes, and where the calendar is jammed with many other urgent matters (to say nothing of the fact that the minority’s power in the Senate is always considerable). For the latest whip count, see Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos on DREAM. While there is hope in the air for DREAM, the last 20 votes for any contentious House bill are always difficult. That’s where the awesome and proven whipping ability of Speaker Pelosi and her leadership team can make a difference, as can a nudge or two applied by the White House; we trust that senior Democrats will go all out to make DREAM happen now.
For years, a small handful of anti-immigrants have fooled Congress as to their numbers by faking zip codes and addresses while making repeated/multiple calls to members of Congress across the country. The pro-immigration side is wise to these dirty anti-immigration tricks, and through grass-roots mobilization, is finally producing record-breaking call volume urging Congress to do the right thing for America by enacting DREAM. Calls from the public are critical in this final stage before a floor vote, we urge our readers to call 1-866-587-3023 to ask Congress to enact DREAM now.
