Comment: Enacting The Dream - DREAM is back on the agenda in the lame duck session. While Comprehensive Immigration Reform remains the long-term goal of the Democratic leadership, their current goal is enacting the DREAM Act before the 111th Congress adjourns for the last time. Reportedly, Speaker Pelosi will bring DREAM to the House floor as a standalone bill during the week of November 29. For both the healthcare and climate bills, Ms. Pelosi demonstrated her stellar capacity for whipping, immigration advocates are counting on her to deliver the votes this time. Should the House pass a standalone DREAM bill, it will ease Majority Leader Reid's efforts to find the Republican votes necessary for Senate passage. The ball is firmly and finally in Ms. Pelosi's court, we urge Ms. Pelosi onwards to passage.
