Ombudsman Khatri Resigns

CIS Ombudsman Khatri announced his resignation and return to the private practice of law, effective February 29, 2008. Michael Dougherty has been appointed by DHS Secretary Chertoff and will assume the duties of the office beginning Monday. Curiously, the related press release issued by DHS Secretary on the matter is headlined "Statement by DHS Michael Chertoff on the Resignation of the USCIS Ombudsman" (see below in news). The press release is incorrect. Prakash Khatri is not the USCIS Ombudsman, but the CIS Ombudsman. It is an important distinction because the CIS Ombudsman's office was created as an independent oversight office, separate and distinct from USCIS, reporting directly to the DHS Deputy Secretary. We welcome Mr. Khatri back to private practice.

Dear Editor:
To be more specific about my 02/29/08 ID letter, I did not mean to suggest that Lou Dobbs himself has ever made any anti-Semitic statements. However, by attacking the ADL, which has been the foremost organization combating anti-Semitism in America for nearly a century, as "a joke", Dobbs has given aid and comfort to the the people who have always been the ADL's main targets - namely, the anti-Semites. Beyond this, the fact that Dobbs has made anti-Latino hate the basis of his TV success calls to mind another popular media personality, Father Charles Coughlin, who became one of America's most popular radio figures in the 1930's with his attacks against Jews. But the biggest joke of all is the idea that Dobbs is only speaking out against illegal immigration. To the contrary, it would be hard to find any legal visa or immigration program that Dobbs has not attacked, including but certainly not limited to H-1B. I have yet to hear him mention the words "green card" without adding the word "giveaway", but then again, I do not watch him every night because I have a weak stomach. Dobbs has also attacked the voting rights of Latino US citizens by suggesting that legitimate attempts to register them could lead to "voter fraud". But here, he is in "distinguished" company, as former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, himself a Latino immigrant, did the same thing, much to his disgrace.

Dear Editor:
Here's an interesting new rant from Dobb’s show that aired this Tuesday. First let me set this up. Evidently Colorado is trying anything and everything that it can legally do to counteract the ill-conceived state legislation that the state passed to target illegal immigrants, which backfired and killed their economy, especially their farmers and ranchers. "Tucker (voice-over): Colorado farmers and ranchers say they don't have enough workers, so the state legislators are getting involved, even though the federal government already has an AG worker visa, the H-2A, a visa program with no annual caps. A bill pending in the State Legislature would authorize the state to seek agreements with foreign countries to help recruit and select agricultural workers." "Dobbs: Well we don't want to get people in Colorado excited because we're dealing with the facts here. Because you know, this is all about race. This is all about economics. This is all about doing the right thing for those employers. Bull. This is about bringing in cheap labor to those ranchers, to those farmers, and the heck with the American worker. And when are the American people going to wake up and perhaps we should start with the people in Colorado in this instance and say, do your jobs. Use your mind. Use your brain. Actually do some work for a change, instead of pursue(sic) some sort of political socio-ethnocentric agenda. You don't suppose." Dobb’s is so out of touch with reality, and so self-obsessed with this issue, that he has literally become a caricature of himself. Or maybe he feels that all of the lazy citizens of Colorado simply need more prisoners to do their jobs for them? At what point will CNN do the merciful thing for our country pull the plug on this xenophobe?

Dear Editor:
I couldn't have said it better than Ruth Miller's letter to the Editor (02/29/08 ID) regarding ID's scathing, racist, demonizing and discriminating comment (02/28/08 ID comment). Shame on Immigration Daily. Immigration Daily has made its wealth in this great country and continues to work toward undermining America's strength and sovereignty. Those are traitorous and unAmerican actions. Betraying the country that gave you this good life is stabbing her and all Americans in the back for the laudits of illegal alien advocates. Illegal is against the law and is criminal behavior. Plain and simple.

Dear Editor:
Lou Dobbs and his "nativist" fans are being dishonest and even worse hypocrites in balking on others trying to do the same as their ancestors did in the past (see 02/29/08 ID). Freedom of movement and survival of any human beings has never been "immoral" nor "illegal". Today's immigration laws are nothing but a form of protectionism to favor what is called "the natives" who feel they can take anything for granted just being citizens of certain countries. It's very naive even foolish that ones can expect no foreign and domestic competition in the high speed internet age and in a globalized world and inter connected global economy. It's a shame for Lou Dobbs and his fans to complaint endlessly about immigration and job outsourcing, since they offer no reasonable and sensible solutions without promoting protectionism and labor monopoly that will make us as the consumers suffer as they will limit and violate our rights to choose better products and services for better deals and pricing. CNN has overpaid Lou Dobbs for easy job of singing the same litany of complaints daily. I'm more than happy to replace him for much less, since I indeed can complaint better than him.

Dear Editor:
What a plethora of letters (2/29/08 ID), pro and con, concerning patriot Lou Dobbs which is but a microcosm of the dilemma on the immigration issue. The liberal left (cons) can't seem to get beyond infantile, irrational and inappropriate name calling and promoting separatism while the pros offer substantive comment regarding the Constitution, our Culture, prudent entry limits and the Rule of Law. Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness" has identified such "liberal" behavior as a mental disorder. He states,"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by: creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization; satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation; augmenting primitive feelings of envy; rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government. Further,"The roots of liberalism - and its associated madness - can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."
