McCain Wins, Antis Lose

Sen. John McCain's GOP win in the New Hampshire primary ends the propaganda perpetuated by anti-immigrationists. For many months, Sen. McCain was written off as a Presidential nominee for his vocal support of legalization. In fact, the hardline immigration stance held by a minority of Republicans was adopted by every other Republican Presidential nominee in the hopes of garnering votes at the polls. Mr. McCain's win sends a strong message by the rank and file that this strategy has clearly backfired. Though it is just one state, the New Hampshire primary results show that Republican support for legalization is not dead and that viewpoints on immigration reform are complex and are not uniformly anti-immigration in the Republican party. Stay tuned.
