The ICE Racists
According to an AP story, Julie Myers, the head of ICE "has apologized after awarding "most original costume" to ... [an] employee who dressed in prison stripes, dreadlocks and dark face makeup for a Hallowe'en gathering at the agency." It must be borne in mind that this is not a case where the head of an agency is apologizing for the errant behavior of a low-level employee. According to the AP story, Ms. Myers was herself "part of a three-judge panel that lauded the costume, worn by a white employee, last Wednesday. She also posed in a photo with the man." The apology apparently had to do with the fact that the errant employee wore "makeup that was a darker color than his skin". No apology for dressing in prison stripes has been offered. Apparently, ICE considers it A-OK to mock those whom they send to prison.

Hey! I Think You Forgot Something: Adjustment Of Status Portability And The I-485 Receipt Notice
Gary Endelman writes "For once, the USCIS makes sense. In response to the tsunami of adjustment of status cases filed this summer, over 300,000 by some estimates, USCIS late last week removed the requirement that H and L non-immigrants coming back to the United States from a trip abroad had to present a receipt notice on Form I-797 for their pending adjustment of status application to preserve their integrity against unintentional abandonment. Let the good times roll, right?"
