Xenophobes Use Climate Of Fear To Push Agendas
An editorial in the San Francisco Chronicle says "Immigration control has now become indistinguishable from the fight against terrorism. New immigrants will almost certainly face delays and confusion in getting their visa applications approved. The more insidious danger is that xenophobic forces trying to restrict immigration will exploit the new linkage to promote their own short-sighted agendas."

Christopher T. Musillo, Esq. writes about nurses and cautions against use of the tourist visa to enter the US.

Legalizing The Undocumented Would Serve US Security Interests
An editorial in the Sacramento Bee says "normalizing foreign workers' status would serve U.S. interests by making them part of a system that could be monitored, rather than leaving them to live precariously in the shadows, from whence threats to security are likelier to come."

Special Registration - A Current Look On Its Implementation
Christine Flowers writes about the special registration requirements and on the manner in which NSEERS has been implemented.

The Sting of Betrayal
Jose Latour writes about the more sinister aspect of special registrants and what's been happening in the US.

Letters to Editors

To write to Editors, send emails to weeklyeditor@ilw.com.

Dear Editor,

As an _Immigrant's Weekly_ subscriber, I enjoyed your account of the cartoon of Santa Claus you received from the law offices of Montiel Davis & Woodward Kimber. I would really like to see the original but for some reason cannot access their website or successfully email them to ask about it.

Is there any chance you could email a scan of it to me, or ask Davis/Kimber to do so? If they are not the originator of the cartoon, could you please help me locate and contact the artist/publisher directly?

Thanks for whatever help you provide, and of course for the Weekly, which this old BONG (Burnt-out Old News Guy) thinks is a job very well done.

Thom Kilpatrick

Dear Editor,

I appreciate receiving your newsletter. But. It is beyond my comprehension that people can write these "crying" emails for the poor undocumented immigrant. It's long past time that everyone concerned understand that if you illegaly cross the border of the USA, you are a criminal! Sorry folks, that's true. The rest of your complaints fall on deaf ears to the vast majority of American citizens. Including millions of Americans of Mexican Ancestry.

As to the USA being a nation of immigrants, that cliche is wearing very thin. Our country needed immigrants up until the early 1900. NOT TODAY!!

Plain and simple. Illegal is unlawful. Those of you who chose this method of entry as oppossed to legally applying for entry, are criminals. If that wonderland called Mexico, that inspires Mexican flags flying here is so terrific, why did you leave? We really don't need your culture here in the US. If you were strong, you would stay in your beloved homeland and work to bring Mexico up to the standards of the United States of America.
