We refer to the letter of Sudhir Shah in the November
20, 2003 issue of Immigration Daily commenting on Gary Endelman's article "Declare Victory and Go Home:
The Solution to Illegal Immigration in America." Sudhir Shah's account of
his so-called experience with clients in India is flawed.
Historically, one of the underpinnings of immigration to the US has been the principle of family reunification. It is not the material aspect but love for family members that prompts the petitioner to undergo
the travails of filing the visa petition and the cumbersome Affidavit of
Support (baring all financial details). Sudhir Shah's charge that brothers
and sisters come to the US to be employed by their petitioner
siblings in menial positions in their homes is ludicrous. The reality is
that Indian families are close knit and have love and affection for all
family members. Most parents come to the US to be united with
their children as they love them and want to spend the rest of their days in
this great country, the US. That these ridiculous comments should come from an attorney who is an AILA member is very painful.
Mr. Shah is out of touch with reality.
