Immigrants Of The week : Christopher Plummer and Dirk Nowitzki

by Greg Siskind

Immigrant of the Day: Christopher Plummer - Best Supporting Actor

Last night was another good night for immigrants in Hollywood. Numerous immigrants and foreign actors and actresses were nominated in a variety of categories and several of the winners deserve mention. I'll start with perhaps the best known - Canadian-born Christopher Plummer. Most of us remember this great actor for his role as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Plummer performed in that film nearly 50 years ago and has never one an Oscar until last night when he was honored for his role in the film Beginners.

Plummer is 82 years old and is the oldest actor ever to win an Academy Award. He's also won two Tony Awards and two Emmys.

[Note: I know some of you are going to ask why I'm not listing the great work by those associated with The Artist, A Separation and a few other nominated films. I'm focusing here on people who actually make the US their home or at least work regularly in the US].
